Modern Electronics for Vintage VW Vanagons
NEW 8691 mini Prototype Development (ETA on or before October 30). We have discontinued the original 8691 ECU Monitor, and have been working with a proof of concept 8691 mini circuit. This prototype has been operational in out 91 Vanagon for over a year, with no issues. It will utilizing digital mode switching, high reliability micro relay switches, an upgraded high end digital panel meter, and a smaller footprint user friendly custom built enclosure from Polycase. This enclosure will also be machined and have color graphics added by them when the enclosures are manufactured. We are currently working on reducing the physical dimensions of the circuit board to fit the new case, and we are changing the orientation from “landscape” (horizontal) to “portrait” (vertical). This along with the smaller size, will allow the mini to fit into a dash mounted phone holder, making it much safer and simpler to view and operate while driving. Our current estimate to have the first 25 ready to market is on or before August 31. The new MSRP is estimated to be in the neighborhood of $299. This includes all the required components, documentation and accessories to simplify adding the ECU Pigtail Cable, and get your new system operating in way less time. (There is no “Kit” aspect anymore, The mini is plug and play out of the box, you only need to add the pigtail cable to your ECU - that’s it. Stay tunes for updates as we progress.
Early prototype design development 03/2025
September 18, 2025 Serial #s 002 & 003. PCB design completed. Thermal testing in progress. Serial # 001 is currently at POLYCASE, Akron, OH, where their engineering team is completing the case drawings for machining and graphics. After we receive the drawings and approve them, the cases will be machined and graphics added; then the first lot of 25 cases will be delivered to us. We are excited to see the drawings and the finished product !! Stay tuned for updates…
