Our Hall Throttle Switch is a direct replacement for the stock VW TPS, currently at or near their end-of life cycle. Mechanical microswitches are quite durable, but normally 25 or more years is beyond their usual lifespan. The Hall technique is an established industry standard for sensor position signalling,
Two small permanent magnets mounted in a teflon magnet disc, activate the sensor at FULL THROTTLE and IDLE Air Throttle Butterfly positions, providing the same contact closure (or open) information to the ECU. A bright yellow LED illuminates at both limits also, and makes adjusting your TPS much easier. No more trying to hear the microswitch CLICK in a noisy Shop or Garage. We also include a 3mm T Handle Wrench that fits the TPS Adjustment Screw nicely.
MSRP $74.95
Our 8335 ECU Monitor has been discontinued. We will be making an 8385 mini Adapter Kit available, which will allow Digijet ECU Vanagons to use our 8691 mini ECU Monitor. This Adapter Kit should be available on or before October 31.
MSRP TBD
So, we are at the point of adding traces to our prototype mini printed circuit board. The white paper on the lower shell is a 1:1 drawing of the board itself. We will be using a 4 layer board to reduce traces (this allows all ground and 12V connections to be connected with a single via (circuit board hole). Once all the traces are added, the board will be compared to the circuit schematic, one trace at a time. If this step checks out, we will order three prototype boards and acquire the Gerber CAD files for it. After successfully testing the prototype circuit boards, we submit the Gerber files to printed circuit board vendors to order larger quantities. At the same time we will coordinate with POLYCASE to provide machining and color graphics for the enclosures. We load and solder the boards, test them individually, and then package them with the required cables and accessories. Our target date is August 16. Updates will be made available here on the 8691 mini page.
The Shoebox Electronix Shop ECU Monitor System Project is currently on hold indefinitely due to increasing costs, and availability issues. We will keep you updated if and when this situation changes. Keep in mind, we have provided the Classic 8691 ECU Monitor to many repair facilities domestic and foreign, and they have had excellent results using it as a diagnostic tool. The 8691 is an example of the KISS theory, and the 8691 mini will soon be following in its footsteps.
One of our current “WIP” projects, the 8691 Pro Monitor System is aimed at the professional VW Repair Shop. Planned features include: dual analog monitoring functions, battery condition meter, separate digital and analog meters, push button digital mode switching, 3” digital oscilloscope display for monitoring pulse signals, and more. We would like to finish our prototype design and testing sometime in early 2024, so stay tuned.

The 8591B Battery Saver Kit is supplied with an assembled and tested circuit board ready to install in your Vanagon. How many times have you forgotten to switch your headlight switch OFF when you left your Vanagon parked for an extended period, only to return to a dead battery? The "Bat Saver" will remind you to click that headlight switch OFF with a pulsing ten second audible alarm. After that it assumes that you want to leave the lights on for some reason, and shuts off. Convienient if you drive in with your lights on for safety reasons, rain, or fog, when the lights are difficult to see from outside your van. The board mounts just under the instrument cluster cover on your speedometer housing. Three wires, prepared with the necessary connectors are included, and connect the Battery Saver to your headlight switch and one ground screw, making the installation straight forward. The circuit is isolated from your wiring with two 5A FB fuses, and a 7805 regulator. All required connector, splices, and wires are included for you to install on all Vanagons. Detailed instructions cover both 1985 and 1986 - 91 models. Pick up one of these neat kits, and forget "Headlight Switch Headache".

We have discontinued the original 8691 ECU Monitor, and have been working with a proof of concept 8691 mini circuit. This prototype has been operational in our 91 Vanagon for over a year, with no issues. It will utilizing digital mode switching, high reliability micro relay switches, an upgraded high end digital panel meter, and a smaller footprint user friendly custom built enclosure from Polycase. This enclosure will also be machined and have color graphics added by them when the enclosures are manufactured. We are currently working on reducing the physical dimensions of the circuit board to fit the new case, and we are changing the orientation from “landscape” (horizontal) to “portrait” (vertical). This along with the smaller size, will allow the mini to fit into a dash mounted phone holder, making it much safer and simpler to view and operate while driving. Our current estimate to have the first 25 ready to market is on or before August 31. The new MSRP is estimated to be in the neighborhood of $299. This includes all the required components, documentation and accessories to simplify adding the ECU Pigtail Cable, and get your new system operating in way less time. (There is no “Kit” aspect anymore, The mini is plug and play out of the box, you only need to add the pigtail cable to your ECU - that’s it. Stay tunes for updates as we progress.
